Bauder's RBI single in eighth gives Mansfield 5-4 win over Chowan

SALEM, VA –
Courtney Bauder's RBI single in the top of the eighth inning and
Emily Crandell's clutch relief pitching gave Mansfield a 5-4 extra-innings win over Chowan in the Mountaineers final game of the West Virginia Wesleyan Tournament Sunday morning in Salem, VA.
Stephanie Simmeth led off the game with a single and moved to third on a double by
Kaitlin Kramer.
Kate Pratt then singled in Simmeth to give the Mountaineers a 1-0 lead. Pratt later scored on a single by Bauder to put Mansfield up 2-0.
The Mountaineers added another run in the second on a solo home run by
Erin Carroll.
Caitlin Klobosits, who struck out 14 in a complete game win yesterday, cruised through the Chowan lineup allowing no runs while striking out five over the first four innings. But with two outs in the bottom of the fifth, Amber Matthews took a 2-2 pitch over the left field fence for a three-run home run to tie the game.
Chowan got a run off a bunt single by Leigh Ward in the bottom of the sixth to take a 4-3 lead but the Mountaineers tied the game at 4-4 on
Kaitlin Kramer's two-out triple.
With one out in the bottom of the seventh inning, Chowan's Liz Hipple doubled and moved to third on a ground out but Crandell got the next batter to pop up sending the game into extra innings.
In the eighth,
Kate Pratt was placed on second base and after a fly out, scored on Bauder's single.
Chowan got its runner to third on a sacrifice bunt but Crandell struck out the next batter looking and got the final batter to pop up to first base to earn the win.
Kramer went 2-4 with a double, triple and RBI for Mansfield with Simmeth also going 2-4 with a double.
Danielle Long doubled and Bauder went 2-3 with two RBI. Carroll hit her first home run of the season.
Crandell allowed three hits over 3.1 innings to improve to 3-2 on the season.
Amber Matthews drove in three runs for Chowan and Liz Hipple went 3-3. Alora Lincoln took the loss going all eight innings allowing 10 hits and striking out three.
Mansfield ends its pre-conference schedule with an 11-4 mark. The Mountaineers will host Bloomsburg on Friday.
