Klobosits fans 14 against West Liberty as Mounties split a pair of games in day two of West Virginia Wesleyan Tournament

Caitlin Klobosits struck-out 14 batters and sophomore
Stephanie Simmeth hit a lead- off home run to lead Mansfield to a 2-1 win over West Liberty State (WV) in their first game of the second day of the West Virginia Wesleyan Tournament in Salem, VA on Saturday.
Host West Virginia Wesleyan beat the Mountaineers 4-1 in their second game of the day.
Klobosits was overpowering in the game fanning a career-high 14 batters and throwing a complete game four-hitter. She walked just one batter. Five of the first six West Liberty outs were recorded via strikeout. Klobosits struck out the side in the fifth inning and fanned the final two batters of the game swinging with the tying run on first in the seventh.
Simmeth the bottom of the first for the Mountaineers by taking a 3-2 pitch over the center field fence for an early 1-0 lead.
Kaitlin Kramer then walked on a 3-2 pitch, stole second and later scored on
Chrissy Lauer's two-out single up the middle to increase the lead to 2-0.
West Liberty closed the gap to 2-1 when Maggie Star led off the sixth inning with a double and scored on a single by Felicia Hulslander.
West Liberty pitcher Becky Fortuna also had a strong outing allowing four hits and striking out 10 in taking the loss.
In the Mountaineers second game of the day, West Virginia Wesleyan scored all four of its runs in the fourth inning with the big hit a two-run single by Kelli McCullough.
Mansfield, which had a 7-6 advantage in hits, scored with Simmeth and Kramer led off the sixth inning with back-to-back doubles. The Mountaineers got their first two runners on in the top of the seventh on singles by
Emily Crandell and
Courtney Baer and loaded the bases with two outs but couldn't push across the tying runs.
Sophomore
Liz Pieniazek started and took the loss for Mansfield. She was relieved in the fourth by Crandell who allowed just one hit over the final 2.2 innings.
Simmeth and Kramer each had two hits including a double each to lead the Mountaineers offense.
Hillary Perez-Ashley went the distance for West Virginia Wesleyan striking out 12.
Mansfield goes to 14-4 on the season and will take on Chowan tomorrow morning before returning back to campus.
