MANSFIELD – The Mansfield University men's and women's basketball teams will play host to the Wolves of Cheyney University Saturday afternoon in PSAC East action at Decker Gymnasium. Women's tip-off is set for 1:00 p.m. with the men following at 3:00 p.m.
Saturday is “First Citizens National Bank Day” with free tickets to both contests available at branch locations in Mansfield, Blossburg and Wellsboro as well as the Mansfield Wal-Mart and Wellsboro Weis Market.
The Mounties will also participate in “Hooping for a Cure” Saturday which is part of a national breast cancer awareness and fundraising effort on behalf of the Women's Basketball Coaches' Association (WBCA). Hooping for a Cure is the PSAC's awareness and fundraising effort that is a part of the WBCA's Play 4Kay, which was formerly known as the WBCA Pink Zone. Play 4Kay is an opportunity for coaches and teams to raise breast cancer awareness and funds for research on the court, across campuses, in communities and beyond.
The Mountaineer women snapped a three-game losing streak with an 81-71 victory over East Stroudsburg Wednesday night. Mansfield is off to an 8-13 overall start and is three games out from a PSAC play-off berth with a 5-12 conference mark. The Mounties' eight wins is the most in a season since 2006-07 when Mansfield finished 13-14 overall and earned a trip to the PSAC play-offs.

Mallory Moore leads the conference in scoring (18.7 ppg) and steals (3.2 spg) while ranking second in free throw percentage (87.2%) and offensive rebounding (3.5 rpg). At 1,451 career points, Moore is second in program scoring history behind only
Alison Tagliaferri (2001-06) who sits at 1,795 career points.
Junior
Julia Stevenson is second in team scoring at 11.4 ppg while freshman
Marrysa Moyer leads the team in rebounding at 7.1 rpg. Sophomore
Jena Matter, who scored a game-high 19 points against East Stroudsburg, averages 9.7 ppg and 6.1 rpg.
The Cheyney women have yet to win a game at 0-21 overall including 0-17 in the PSAC. In their first meeting of the season, Mansfield sneaked away with a 57-54 victory over the Wolves at one of the toughest places to play in the conference in Cope Hall.
Cheyney is led by senior Nadirah Brown who is averaging a team-high 12.1 points and 7.4 rebounds per outing. Freshman Aerie DeJesus is second on the team in scoring at 11.5 and leads the team in assists with 48 and steals with 32.
The Mountaineer men are on a three-game losing skid after dropping contests to West Chester, Shippensburg and East Stroudsburg to hold an overall record of 7-14 and a PSAC mark of 4-13. Head coach

Mansfield is led by five-time PSAC East Freshman of the Week
Joe Bell who is averaging 15.6 ppg on the season and 22.2 ppg over his last six games. Bell is second in the conference in field goal percentage, connecting on 55.7% of his shots.

Chuck Harper is scoring an average of 13.5 ppg shooting 50.8% from the field (5
th PSAC). Four players are averaging 8.4 or more points per game in
Cory Henneghan (9.5),
Kevonte McClain (8.5),
Kyle Bradley (8.4) and
Josh Dupuy (8.4).
The Cheyney men, who lost all five starters from last season's squad, are 3-18 overall and last in the PSAC East with a conference record of 2-15. The Wolves stunned Mansfield in their last meeting, coming away with a 92-84 victory at Cope Hall.
Junior Jason Sabb is second in the PSAC in scoring at 20.3 ppg and 8
th in field goal percentage at 49.8%. Senior Brandon Baylor averages 16.4 ppg while sophomore Rashaad Slappy averages 15.0 ppg.
