SHIPPENSBURG –Mansfield's
Cory Henneghan scored a career-best 22 points but it wouldn't be enough to offset a hot-shooting Shippensburg team as the Mountaineers suffered a 90-78 setback in a PSAC East contest at Heigis Field House Saturday afternoon.
With the loss, Mansfield falls to 0-10 in games away from Decker Gymnasium this season.
Shippensburg, the top shooting team in the PSAC, got off to a hot-start shooting 70% from the floor in building a 27-11 lead midway through the first half. Mansfield, which missed 12 of its first 16 shots, got 12 of its first 14 points on four
Cory Henneghan 3-pointers.
The Mountaineers trailed 34-23 with just over five minutes remaining in the first half when they went of a 11-2 run, kicked off with a 3-pointer from Dom Oliver, to cut the lead to 36-34 on Henneghan's fifth 3-pointer of the first half with 44 seconds remaining before halftime.
But as would be the theme all afternoon, Shippensburg managed to answer Mansfield's run with a pair of free throws by Craig Van Scyoc and 3-pointer by Reggie Charles as the buzzer sounded to take a 41-34 advantage into intermission.
Mansfield closed to 48-46 on another 3-pointer by Henneghan six minutes into the second half but Shippensburg responded with a trey from Jordan Stasyszyn and then extending the lead to 59-52 with 11 minutes to go.
Mansfield made one last run and pulled to 61-58 on a 3-pointer by
Charles Becoats a little over a minute later, but Shippensburg answered with another 3-pointer from Stasyszyn.
That 3-pointer keyed a 21-8 run by the Raiders, who took what would prove to be insurmountable 82-66 advantage with just over four minutes to play. Shippensburg connected on 6-of-7 shots from the floor, including 4-4 on three-point attempts, during the run.
Mansfield took 74 shots from the floor compared to 55 by Shippensburg and held a 39-38 rebounding advantage, but the Raiders hit 21-of-30 free throws to the Mountaineers 7-of-11. Shippensburg's zone-defense forced Mansfield to put up a season-high 31 three-point attempts with the Mountaineers connecting on a season-best 11 of them.
Henneghan hit 7-of-15 shots from the floor, all of them 3-pointers, in scoring his team-high 22 points.

Josh Dupuy added 10 points and seven assists.
Craig Van Scyoc led Shippensburg (8-14, 5-11 PSAC) with a game-high 24 points with Reggie Charles scoring 20 points and Dylan Edgar 18.
Mansfield, which beat Shippensburg 77-73 earlier in the season at Decker Gymnasium, falls to 7-13 and 4-12 in PSAC play.
