MANSFIELD –
Joe Bell scored 14 points but Mansfield had few other bright spots in suffering a 81-60 setback to division-leading Bloomsburg in a PSAC East matchup Wednesday night in Decker Gymnasium.
“The way Bloomsburg played offensively just took us out of what could do out there,” said head coach
Rich Miller. “We got a little impatient on offense and didn't take the ball inside.”
Bell scored the game's first two-points and Mansfield held a 9-7 advantage three minutes into the game on a 3-pointer by
Cory Henneghan, but the Mountaineers would never lead again.
Bloomsburg held a 12-11 lead with just under 15 minutes to go in the first half and used a 23-4 run over the next 10 minutes to take what would prove to be an insurmountable 35-15 lead.
Mansfield cut the score to 39-26 at halftime but Bloomsburg was unstoppable in the second half building a 72-44 lead with under five minutes to play.
Bell, who recorded eight of Mansfield's 26 first half points, just missed a double-double pulling down a game high nine rebounds while connecting on 7-10 attempts from the floor. Chukwuka Ikpeze was the only other Mountaineer in double-figures with a season-high 10 points.
Mansfield held a 36-34 rebounding advantage but was outshot 58.6% to 35.4% from the floor. The Mountaineers took a season-high 32 3-pointers hitting just seven.
The loss snapped a six-game winning streak against Bloomsburg at Decker Gymnasium dating back to the 2005-06 season.
Lorenzo Christmas led Bloomsburg with a game-high 20 points while Dontahe Jordan added 17 points and nine rebounds.
Mansfield falls to 8-15 overall and 5-14 in PSAC play. The Mountaineers travel to Millersville Saturday.
