MANSFIELD – Devon McBride scored 20 of his game-high 32 points in the second half to lead Kutztown to a 77-65 PSAC East win over Mansfield Wednesday night at Decker Gymnasium.
The game started at a frantic pace and featured 16 ties or lead changes in the first 20 minutes before Kutztown took a 40-38 lead into halftime.
The action remained tight through the first 10 minutes of the second half with Kutztown holding a 58-56 lead after a jumper by Mansfield's
Chuck Harper with 10 minutes to play.
But Kutztown got 10 straight points, all of them from McBride to take a 69-58 advantage five minutes later and Mansfield never recovered.
Kutztown held a 48-35 rebounding advantage and went a perfect 13-13 from the free throw line.
In addition to McBride, Kutztown got a double-double from Eric Brennan with 13 points and 10 rebounds as well as a double-double by Nate Edwards with 11 points and 10 rebounds.
Harper led Mansfield with 19 points while
Joe Bell scored 14 points and
Kyle Bradley 10.
Kutztown improved its conference-best winning streak to eight games in improving to 12-5 overall and 9-4 in the PSAC.
Mansfield, which lost for just the third time in eight tries at Decker Gymnasium, fell to 6-11 and 3-10 in conference play.
Mansfield host Millersville Saturday.
