MANSFIELD – Bloomsburg scored six runs in the sixth inning to break open a 1-0 game in the opener and Mansfield stranded 10 runners in the nightcap including six runners over the final three innings, dropping a PSAC East doubleheader Friday at Shaute Field.

Mansfield lost the opener 7-3 and dropped the nightcap 6-4 to extend its losing streak to seven games.

In the opener, Mansfield starter Jon Candelmo was perfect over the first three innings and retired the first 11 batters he faced until give up a two-out infield single to Joey Ianiero. Jerry Lloyd then doubled in Ianiero to give Bloomsburg a 1-0 lead.

Mansfield had runners in scoring position on a leadoff double by Dan Chevalier in the second inning and Seth Tressler singled and advanced to third in the third inning but the Mountaineers couldn't push across a run.

In the sixth, Bloomsburg scored six runs on six hits and took a 7-0 lead into the bottom of the seventh when Mansfield scored three runs with two outs on a RBI pinch-hit double by Ernie Ruch and a two-run single by Tressler.

Bloomsburg's Vinny Voorhees went the distance to earn his third win of the season scattering nine hits and striking out six. Candelmo took the loss for Mansfield to fall to 4-4 on the season while Tressler went 2-4 and drove in two runs.

In the nightcap, Bloomsburg scored four runs in the first inning off Mansfield starter Joel Worthington giving the sophomore his first loss in five decisions this year.

Mansfield scored a run in the bottom of the first when Tressler led off with a single and later scored. Tressler got another run in the fourth inning on an RBI single by Ruch to close to 4-2.

But Bloomsburg got solo runs in the fifth and sixth innings to extend the lead to 6-2 after Huskies' starter Casey Cooperman got out of a bases loaded jam in the fifth.

Mansfield closed to 6-4 with two runs in the sixth on an RBI double by Ruch and sacrifice fly by Dylan Woodworth and had two runners on in the bottom or the seventh before Bloomsburg closer Matt Kline struck out the final Mansfield batter looking.

Andy Young pitched well in relief of Worthington allowing just five hits over 6.2 innings and striking out a career-high eight batters. Tressler went 3-4 while Moser and Ruch each had two hits.

Mansfield falls to 16-13 overall and 5-9 in the PSAC East.

The two teams are scheduled to meet in a doubleheader at Bloomsburg on Saturday.
