Baseball Stumbles Twice at West Chester

WEST CHESTER -- The Mansfield University baseball team dropped a PSAC East doubleheader at West Chester Friday afternoon losing the first game 12-7 and being edged in the nightcap 2-1.

In the opener, West Chester scored 12 runs in four innings of Mountaineer ace Eric Rosenberger and the Mountaineers couldn't generate a run after the third inning in falling 12-7.

Mansfield scored the game's first run in the top of the first but West Chester answered with two runs of its own in the bottom of the inning.

Mansfield took a 5-2 lead with four runs in the top of the second scoring a run on a RBI singles by Dylan Woodworth, Kevin Miller and Brian Milliman.

The Mountaineer extended their lead to 7-2 with two more runs in the third on a two –run double by Mike Hartz.

West Chester closed the gap to 7-4 with two runs in the bottom of the third and pulled to 7-2 with another pair of runs in the fourth.

In the fifth, West Chester chased Rosenberger from the mound with four straight singles and a double to open the inning accounting for five of six West Chester runs.

Mansfield, which stranded 10 runners in the game, couldn't get to reliever Jordan Lehman after the third inning.

Woodworth and Milliman each had wo hits for Mansfield while Hartz drove in two runs and Woodworth, Kevin Miller, Jon Moser and Milliman a run each.

Rosenberger was touched for his first loss in six decisions and was relieved by Aaric Ross in the fifth and Mitch Iseneker in the sixth.

Lehman went 5.1 innings in relief of starter Cornor Kerins to picked up his third win of the season for West Chester with Jack Provine and Chris Pula each driving in three runs.

In the nightcap, Mansfield's Joe Candelmo and West Chester's Dylan Porter locked up in a pitching dual.

ester took a 1-0 on a sac fly by Brandon Wolfe and added another run in the third on an RBI single by Wolfe.

Mansfield closed to 2-1 with a run in the fourth when Kevin Miller opened the inning with a single and later scored on a double by Brian Milliman.

Mansfield had two runners on in each the fifth and seventh but couldn't push across the tying run.
Candelmo scattered eight hits and struck out four while walking none in falling to 4-3 on the season. Milliman doubled and drove in Mansfield's only run.

Dylan Porter went the distance to improve to 4-2 for West Chester.

Both teams are scheduled to meet at Mansfield's Shaute Field for a doubleheader on Saturday.
