Mansfield baseball splits PSAC East twinbill with Kutztown

MANSFIELD –
Kevin Miller went 3-4 and drove in three runs as Mansfield rallied twice from four run deficits to beat Kutztown 17-9 in the first game of a PSAC East doubleheader at Shaute Field Sunday afternoon.
Mansfield dropped the nightcap 9-6.
In the opener, Kutztown jumped out to a 4-0 lead thanks to a three-run home run by Cody Martz in the second inning before Mansfield closed the gap to 4-1 on an RBI double by
Glen Jenkins in the bottom half of the inning.
Mansfield tied the score at 4-4 with three runs in the bottom of third, one coming on a sac fly by Miller and another on a RBI single by
Brian Milliman.
Kutztown retook the lead in the top of the fifth on Shayne Houck's first home run of the game, a solo shot with one out.
Kutztown increased its lead to 8-4 with three runs in the top of the fifth before Mansfield staged its second big rally of the game scoring six runs in the bottom of the inning.
Milliman doubled in one run and Jenkins singled in two more.
Mike Hartz plated another with a bases-loaded walk before Miller singled in two more runs giving Mansfield a 10-8 lead.
After Kutztown closed to 10-9 with a run in the top of the sixth, Mansfield exploded for seven runs in the
bottom of the frame on RBI doubles by
Seth Tressler and
Dylan Woodworth followed by an run scoring single from Hartz. Mitch Iseneker added an RBI single before
Jon Moser singled in the final two runs.
Eric Rosenberger started for Mansfield and went the first 4.1 innings before being relieved by
Marc Baker who allowed just three hits over the finial 2.1 innings to pitch up his third win of the season.
Woodworth, Miller and Moser each had three hits with eight of the nine starters being credited with at least one hit and one RBI. Miller and Jenkins each drove in three runs.
Shayne Houck led Kutztown going 3-5 with two home runs and four RBI. Jonathan Grosse started and took the loss.
In the nightcap, Kutztown scored eight runs in the first four innings off Mansfield starter
Joe Candelmo.
Kutztown had an 8-2 lead going into the bottom of the fourth when Mansfield got three runs, two of them coming off a single by
Dan Chevalier to close to 8-5 but could pull no close.
Hartz went 3-4 with an RBI as all 10 Mansfield hits were singles. Tressler and Woodworth each had two hits in the game.
Jordan Garcia went the d
istance for Kutztown giving up 10 hits and striking out eight. Candelmo took the loss for Mansfield falling to 4-2.
Mansfield is now 15-6 overall and 4-2 in PSAC East play.
Both teams are scheduled to meet tomorrow at Kutztown.
