Mansfield edged 3-2 by Ashland in Florida baseball - Hartz drives in both runs for Mounties

AUBURNDALE, FL – Newcomer
Craig Cymerman went the distance and allowed just two earned runs but Mansfield came up just short in a 3-2 loss to Ashland (OH) in Auburndale,FL Wednesday afternoon.
Cymerman, a transfer from Division I Mississippi Valley State, scattered five hits and walked five while striking out four in his first appearance in a Mountaineer uniform.
Mansfield scored the game's first run when
Seth Tressler led off the game with a single and stole second before scoring on a single by
Mike Hartz.
Ashland (6-1) took the lead in the bottom of the third on a two run double by Shayne Herold and added a solo run in the bottom of the fifth on an RBI single by Tyler Gray.
Mansfield (4-2) closed the gap to 3-2 with a solo run in the sixth when
Glen Jenkins led off the inning with a walk and later scored on a double down the right field line by Hartz.
Mansfield got the lead runner on in the top of the nine when
Dan Chevalier singled to start the inning but Andrew Pinkleman, who came in relief of starter Brad Thomas in the eighth, got
Dylan Woodworth to ground into a double-play to end the game.
Hartz went 2-4 with a double and two RBI to lead the Mountaineers offense. Herold was 2-3 with a double and two RBI for Ashland. Thomas got the win allowing five hits over 7.2 innings and striking out five.
Mansfield plays West Virginia Wesleyan and Minnesota-Mankato Thursday in Auburndale.
