FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Mansfield opens PSAC East season with split at No. 25 Millersville


MILLERSVILLE – Eric Rosenberger threw a complete game four-hitter to lead Mansfield to a 3-2 win over No. 25 ranked Millersville in the Mountaineers PSAC East season opener Saturday at Marauder Field.

Millersville won the nightcap 6-0.

In the opener, Millersville took advantage of three Mansfield errors to score solo runs in the first and second innings.

Trailing 2-0, Mansfield got three runs in the top of the third, two of them coming on bases-loaded walks by Jon Moser and Dan Chevalier, with Kevin Miller driving in first run on a sac fly.

Rosenberger then took over, allowing just two hits over the final four innings to improve to 4-0 on the season. The senior, who threw his second complete game in four starts this year, struck out five while allowing no earned runs.

Dylan Woodworth had two hits to lead the Mountaineers offense which stranded eight runners in the game.

Derek Kline started for Millersville and went the first three innings to suffer his first loss in four decisions on the season.

In the nightcap, Brooks Rothschild threw a two-hit shutout in a 6-0 Millersville win. Rothschild struck out five while walking one.

While Mansfield struggled to gets its offense untracked, Millersville got to Mountaineer starter Joe Candelmo for six runs on seven hits, including a two-run home run by Derek Kline.

 It was Candelmo's first loss in four decisions on the season. Eric Conway threw a scoreless sixth inning in relief.

Mansfield got its first hit of the game on a single by Jon Taddeo in the sixth before Jon Moser doubled in the seventh.

Millersville is now 17-5 overall and 4-2 in PSAC East play.

Mansfield goes to 10-5 overall and 1-1 in the PSAC East.
