Mounties split doubleheader at No. 15 Wilmington

WILMINGTON, DE –
Joel Worthington scattered four hits over six innings and
Mike Hartz singled in the winning run in the top of the fifth to lead Mansfield to a 2-1 win over No. 15 Wilmington in the nightcap of a non-conference doubleheader Tuesday afternoon.
It was just the second loss in 19 games this season for Wilmington.
Wilmington won the first game 6-4.
In the nightcap, Mansfield scored first when freshman Mitch Iseneker doubled with one out and scored on a single by
Jon Moser.
Wilmington tied the score with a run in the bottom of the fourth on a two-out single by Drew Anusky.
Jon Taddeo doubled to lead off the fifth for Mansfield and scored later in the inning when Hartz singled with two outs.
Worthington had an outstanding game scattering four hits over six innings while striking out four. He was relieved in the seventh by
Andy Young who struck out two of the three batters he faced to pick up the save.
Moser went 2-3 with an RBI to lead the Mansfield offense with Iseneker and Taddeo each hitting a double.
Josh Kempa started and took the loss for Wilmington.
In the opener, Mansfield took a 1-0 lead in the first when
Seth Tressler led off the game with a single and later scored on a sac fly by Martz.
Wilmington tied the game with a run in the second before chasing Mountaineer starter
Craig Cymerman with five runs on just two hits in the third.
Mansfield chipped away at the lead scoring twice in the fifth on an RBI single by
Dylan Woodworth who later scored on a wild pitch.
The Mountaineers threatened with two outs in the seventh when
Kevin Miller tripled in a run before Nick Marics, who came in relief of Wilmington starter Ryan Lally in the sixth, got
Brian Milliman to hit into a game-ending ground out.
Marc Baker had another strong relief appearance allowing no hits and striking out one in 1.2 innings of relief.
Mike Martin finished out the last two innings allowing two hits and no runs while striking out one.
Kevin Miller went 3-4 with a triple and RBI to top the offense while
Dan Chevalier and
Seth Tressler had two hits each.
Mansfield will open the PSAC East season when the Mountaineers host Millersville this Friday at Shaute Field.
