Lakeland, FL
– Senior Eric Rosenberger picked up his second win of the season in a 3-2 victory over PSAC rival Slippery Rock University in the final game of the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational.

Slippery Rock (7-7), who had been ranked as high as No. 17 in the nation in earlier polls, struck first in the 3rd inning when Matt Howard hit an RBI double into center field to bring home Derek Carr and make it a 1-0 ball game.

Mansfield (6-3) answered back in the bottom of the inning when Senior Kevin Miller belted an RBI single into right center scoring Dylan Woodworth. The Mountaineers loaded the bases up, but couldn't capitalize on the opportunity and left the inning with a 1-1 tie.

Mike Hartz started off a big 5th inning for the Mounties with a single up the middle. Miller watched four balls go by to put runners on first and second. Two straight wild pitches by Slippery Rock scored Hartz and put Miller on third with two outs. Another wild pitch by The Rock scored Miller to give Mansfield a 3-1 lead.

Slippery Rock put another run on the board in the top of the 6th inning to narrow Mansfield's lead to one run.

Any hopes of a come from behind victory by The Rock were put to rest as Joel Worthington came in to close the game with three shutout innings to give Mansfield the 3-2 win. Senior ace, Eric Rosenberger, picked up his second win in Florida allowing only five hits over six innings and sitting down five batters on strikeouts. Worthington picked up his first save of the year.

Mansfield wraps-up its 2011 Florida trip with six wins and three losses. The Mounties open up their first home game at Shaute Field with a double header against Clarion University on March 18th.
