Mountie men struggle to find offense in 64-51 loss at West Chester

WEST CHESTER – The Mansfield University men's basketball team started off second half play in the PSAC East on a disappointing note in a 64-51 setback at West Chester Saturday afternoon.

Tony Fannick who averaged 22 points a game over the last two games – Fannick missed the game with flu-like symptoms, struggled all afternoon to establish its offense.
The Mountaineers scored the game's first five points and led for the first seven minutes of the game until West Chester's Carl Johnson hit a 3-pointer to give the Golden Rams a 11-10 lead.
West Chester (12-8, 3-5 PSAC East) extended that lead to 30-22 at halftime getting 17 points off the bench in the first half.
Mansfield (13-7, 5-3 PSAC East) was never able to close to less than six points early in the second half at 34-28 on a layup by
Josh Dupuy, but it would be all West Chester from then on.
The 51 points were the lowest for the Mountaineers this season.
Mansfield made just 3-of-20 three-point attempts including 1-of-10 in the first half while shooting 35% (17-48) from the floor for the game – its third worst shooting performance of the season. The Mountaineers had hit on 22-of-46 three-pointers in their last two games against Cheyney and Kutztown.
Senior
Yuseff Carr scored a game-high 19 points to tie his season best but was the only Mountaineer to score in double-figures.
Derrison Anthony added nine points.
Carl Johnson came off the bench to lead four West Chester players in double-digures with 15 points. Khalif Foster and Shannon Givens each scored 12 points.
The loss was the second in a row for Mansfield which was tied with Kutztown for the PSAC East lead before losing to the Golden Bears in OT on Thursday and West Chester on Saturday. The Mountaineers are currently is second place in the PSAC East but the standing tightened up considerably with Millersville triple overtime win over Bloomsburg and West Chester's win over Mansfield.
East Stroudsburg also outlasted Cheyney 75-72 on Saturday. Shippensburg's game at Kutztown was postponed until Sunday.
Mansfield travels to East Stroudsburg on Wednesday.
