FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Mansfield Men Ranked 5th in Atlantic Region

MANSFIELD – The Mansfield University men's basketball team moved up one spot to No. 5 in this week's NCAA Division II Atlantic Region rankings released by the NCAA office.

Mansfield is one of four PSAC schools ranked in the top ten in the region. West Liberty (WV) again tops the list, followed by Bowie State (MD), Mercyhurst, IUP, and Mansfield. Shaw (NC), Winston-Salem State (NC), West Virginia Wesleyan, Slippery Rock, and Pitt-Johnstown complete the top ten.

Mansfield has played well against regionally ranked teams this season, defeating Mercyhurst twice, beating IUP at home, and losing a tough overtime battle against Bowie State by one point on the road.

The Mountaineers clinched their second straight PSAC East title last night with an 86-74 victory over Kutztown University at Decker Gymnasium. Mansfield travels to Cheyney University this Saturday in their last regular season game before hosting a PSAC quarterfinal game at Decker on Tuesday, March 1st.
