MANSFIELD – Seniors Yuseff Carr and Derrison Anthony combined to score 41 points to lead Mansfield to a 86-74 win over Kutztown Wednesday earning Mansfield its second straight PSAC East title.

“It was a great win for our guys,” said head coach Rich Miller. “Everyone talks about Yuseff and Derrison, and they should, but tonight we got 37 points off the bench and that was really the difference maker.”

Mansfield trailed 22-14 after the first eight minutes of the game and was still down 25-18 with just under nine minutes remaining in the first half before going on a 11-0 run over the next three minutes to take a 31-27 lead with just under five minutes before halftime.

Mansfield extended the lead to 44-34 at intermission and could pull no closer than 71-65 with just over five minutes remaining in the game before Mansfield extended the lead to double-digits again.

“We did a great job defensively and held them to just 42% shooting. That's what we worked on during the week,” said Miller.

Carr scored a game-high 21 points and pulled down seven rebounds while blocking four shots. Anthony recorded his eighth double-double of the season with 20 points and 10 rebounds. 16 of those points come in the first half when he went 8-10 from the floor.

Josh Dupuy came off the bench to scored 16 points with Tony Fannick adding 10 points.
Mansfield shot 56.4% from the floor, its second best shooting night of the season, and held a 41-35 rebounding margin.

Kutztown (15-10, 8-5 PSAC East) had four players score in double-figures led by Devon McBride with 16 points off the bench. Tamir Johnson scored 15 points with Julius Gray adding 12 points and Nate Edwards 11 points.

Mansfield will end the regular season at Cheyney Saturday before hosting a first-round playoff game against an opponent to be determined at Decker Gymnasium on Tuesday.

“It means we're raising another banner in Decker Gym next year,” said Miller. “But it's still a long way from where we want this season to end.”

It marks the first time since 1964 the Mountaineers have captured back-to-back PSAC East titles.
