CALIFORNIA, PA – Freshman Joe Bell recorded his first collegiate double-double but it wouldn't be enough as California powered past Mansfield 91-65 in a PSAC crossover contest Saturday afternoon in the first-ever men's basketball game in California's new Convocation Center.

Mansfield, playing without leading scorer and rebounder Chuck Harper, led for the first seven minutes of the game before Quentin Harding's layup at the 12:45 mark of the first half gave California its first advantage of the day at 12-11.

The Mountaineers would never retake the lead with Cal going on a 17-4 run over the next seven minutes, building a 31-17 lead with five minutes to go before intermission.

Mansfield trailed 40-27 at halftime and was behind 61-45 eight minutes into the second half when California ended any hope of a comeback by going on a 10-0 run over the next three minutes, taking a 71-45 lead on a pair of free throws by Shannon Williams with 8:45 to play.

Cal shot 51.6% from the floor to Mansfield's season-low 35.8% and the Vulcans also connected on all 21 of their second half free throws while out rebounding the Mountaineers 42-27.

Although Mansfield struggled offensively scoring a season-low 65 points, Bell easily had his best game of the season scoring a team-high 14 points while pulling down a game-best 10 rebounds.

Cory Henneghan kept Mansfield in the game knocking down back-to-back 3-pointers late in the first half while connecting on 4-of-6 of his attempts from beyond the arch for all 12 of his points. Sophomore Kevonte McClain added 11 points, scoring in double-figures for the third straight game.

California remained undefeated on the season with a 5-0 mark while improving to 3-0 in conference play. The Vulcans had four players in double-figures led by Steve Swiech with a game-high 18 points. Chad Tipton and Travon Vann each added 14 points and Chris Williams 12 points.

Mansfield falls to 2-2 overall and 1-2 in PSAC play and will travel to No. 8 ranked IUP tomorrow.
