MANSFIELD –
Chuck Harper and
Joe Bell combined for 43 points and Mansfield had six players score in double-figures in a 111-94 non-conference win over Central Penn at Decker Gymnasium Monday night.
“I knew it would be tough,” said head coach
Rich Miller. “Central Penn has some very good players and they can score. We got a big lift in the end with our outside shooting from Cory (Henneghan) and Kyle (Bradley) and they couldn't comeback from that.”
Mansfield held a double-digit lead for much of the game leading 70-60 six minutes into the second half. But Central Penn went on an 11-0 run to take a 71-70 lead on a tip-in by Andre Bate with 11 minutes to play.
Mansfield answered with a 14-4 run of its own over the next four minutes, taking a 84-75 led on a layup by Harper before Central Penn rallied again to tie the game at 89-89 with just under five minutes to play.
But Mansfield retook the lead starting with back-to-back 3-pointers by
Cory Henneghan that ignited a 22-5 run over the final five minutes to preserve the win.
Harper scored a game-high 23 points and just missed a double-double with nine rebounds while bell, who hit 9-14 from the field, scored 20 points. Henneghan was on-fire from the outside hitting five 3-pointers and scoring a career-high 17 points in just 15 minutes of play.
Charles Becoats added 14 points hitting four 3-pointers while
Kyle Bradley fought off injuries to score 12 points.
Kevonte McClain added 11 points.
Mansfield made a season-best 14 3-pointers, more than double the previous most scored in a game (6) this season. It was the most 3-pointers in a game for the Mountaineers since hitting 15 trey's against Penn College in 2008.
The Mountaineers also shot a season high 52.5% from the floor (42-80).
Central Penn (8-9) was led by Antoine Brown with 19 points followed by Andre Bate and Devin Dorsey, both of whom scored 18 points.
Mansfield improves to 4-4 overall and are off until traveling to LeMoyne on Dec. 30.
