FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Mounties offense struggles to find groove in 79-64 exhibition loss at Division I Binghamton
BINGHAMTON, NY –
Josh Dupuy and
Kevonte McClain combined for 25 points but it would be enough as the Mansfield offense struggled to find consistency in a 79-64 loss to Division I Binghamton at the Events Center Monday night.
Mansfield hung with the Bearcats for much of the first half before a late run led to a Binghamton 41-28 halftime advantage.
The Mountaineers made a run early in the second half, closing the gap to 47-40 when
Charles Becoats hit a jumper and a 3-pointer four minutes into the second half and Mansfield trailed 49-42 on a pair of free throws by McClain a minute but could pull no closer.
Dupuy had a solid game scoring a team-high 13 points and leading the team with five rebounds. He also recorded a game-best four steals with three assists. McClain added 12 points hitting 4-of-8 from the floor and pulling down four rebounds. Becoats added nine points.
Binghamton, which held a 42-30 rebounding advantage, was led by Robert Mansell with a game-high 21 points.
Mansfield will open the 2011-12 regular season this Saturday when they host Penn College.
