MANSFIELD – Mansfield had five players in double-figures, including an 18-point effort off the bench from Chuck Harper, but it wasn't enough to counter Isaiah Prince's 29-point performance as a hot-shooting Edinboro beat Mansfield 101-89 in a PSAC crossover contest Saturday afternoon in Decker Gymnasium.

“We're a better team than we showed today,” said head coach Rich Miller. “Edinboro is a very athletic team with a lot of depth but we didn't play as well as
we can and as we're going to need to play against people in this conference.”

The game started on a furious pace and stayed that way for much of the afternoon.

With the score tied at 8-8 a little over three minutes into the game, Edinboro went on a 16-3 run to take a 24-11 advantage on a 3-pointer from Sam Moore at the 11:11 mark of the first half before Mansfield edged back into contention when Harper's three-point play cut the margin to 28-21 with just over seven minutes left in the half.

But Edinboro (1-1, 1-0 PSAC) responded with a 20-9 run to extend the lead to 48-30 on a pair of Chris Klimchock free throws to take a 48-30 lead with just under two minutes remaining in the half.

Mansfield managed to cut the lead to 48-34 at halftime on layups by Kevonte McClain and Cory Henneghan.

The Mountaineer  pulled to within single figures five minutes into the second half when a 3-pointer by Charles Becoats closed the score to 61-53,  But back-to-back 3-pointers by the Fighting Scots Jay Fletcher and Prince keyed a 19-7 run giving Edinboro a 79-60 lead midway through the half.

Still Mansfield didn't go away easily using a Harper dunk to key a 10-3 run late in the game to pull to 93-85 on a pair of free throws by Isaac Bittle.
Mansfield trailed 95-87 when Breland Roach hit a layup with 47 seconds to play, but the Mountaineers could pull no closer.

Edinboro shot 55.9% from the floor for the game including a blistering 66.7% in the second half and pulled down 41 rebounds to Mansfield's 29.

Harper connected on 6-9 from the floor and 6-7 from the free throw line in scoring his 18 points. He also added six rebounds. Becoats and Kyle Bradley each scored 15 points with Kevonte McClain putting in 13 points and pulling down five rebounds before fouling out of the game. Joe Bell added 10 points with a team-best seven rebounds. Josh Dupuy scored eight points but dished out 11 assists.

Prince had an exceptional game for Edinboro connecting on 10-14 from the floor and 2-3 on free throws while also recording four steals. Bryan Theriot added 19 points with Fletcher and Cory Somerville 12 points.

It marked the first time a team has scored 100 points on the Mountaineers since 1 101-90 loss to West Liberty midway through the 2007 season.

Mansfield falls to 1-1 on the season and will host Lock Haven, which dropped a 82-50 decision at Bloomsburg Saturday, on Sunday starting at 3 p.m. in Decker Gymnasium.
