Mansfield men beat No. 17 IUP 72-69
BOX SCORE
MANSFIELD –
Yuseff Carr scored a team-high 15 points and pulled down a key rebound with less than a second to play to lift Mansfield to a 72-69 win over No. 17 ranked IUP in a PSAC crossover contest Tuesday night at Decker Gymnasium.
Mansfield led 37-32 at halftime and extended that lead to 69-59 on a free throw by
Tony Fannick with 2:38 to play. IUP, which trailed 71-63 with just over a minute to play, cut the lead to 71-69 with 20 seconds remaining before
Kyle Bradley hit the first of two free throw attempts to increase the lead to 72-69.
Bradley missed his second and IUP got the rebound. A 3-pointer by Darryl Webb with 10 seconds to play was off the mark. IUP got the rebound off a scramble with Julian Sanders launching a long 3-pointer that hit the rim and bounced to Carr to end the game.
Mansfield, which made just two of 15 three-pointers in yesterday's loss to California and was 1-of-9 on 3-point attempts in the first half against IUP, used a pair of 3-pointers by
Kurtis Levere and one by Fannick in the game's final six minutes to hold off IUP rallies. Carr added seven rebounds and two block shots.
Charles Harper came off the bench to score 13 points for Mansfield connecting on 6-7 from the floor and pulling down four rebounds in 25 minutes of play.
Tony Fannick recorded his three straight double-figure game adding 10 points before fouling out in the final minute of play.
Juliand Sanders led IUP (7-3) with a game-high 22 points with Darryl Webb scoring 16 points.
Mansfield travels to Mercyhurst and Slippery Rock this Saturday and Sunday.
