Mountaineer Men Struggle Against Hot Shooting Cal

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Cold Mansfield men fall to California 78-60

BOX SCORE

MANSFIELD – Tony Fannick scored a game-high 18 points but it wouldn't be enough to overcoming a hot shooting California team as Mansfield dropped a 78-60 decision in a PSAC crossover game Monday night in Decker Gymnasium.

The two teams were locked into a 10-10 tie after the first seven minutes of the game before California went on a 30-12 run to take a 40-22 lead with just over three minutes remaining in the first half.
California, which shot 52% from the floor and hit 5-of-9 3-pointers in the first half, took a 40-24 lead into halftime.

The Mountainneers looked like a team that hasn't played in 22 days (Mansfield last game was on Dec. 11) in scoring their fewest points points of the season.

Mansfield, which missed its first 15 3-point attempts, never managed to threaten in the second half.

The Mountaineers connected on a season-low 34% of their shots while California shot a remarkable 64% (30-47) from the floor.

In addition to Fannick's 18-point effort, Yuseff Carr also had 14 points for Mansfield along with seven rebounds.

Steve Swiech led California (6-2) with 14 points while Quentin Harding and Rashawd Hatten each scored 11 points.

Mansfield (6-3) will host IUP Tuesday at Decker Gymnasium.
