West Chester upends Mansfield men 86-74

MANSFIELD – West Chester shot 61% from the floor in the second half and outscored Mansfield 44-36 in the final 20 minutes of the game to post a 86-74 win in the opening game of the PSAC East season for both teams Wednesday night at Decker Gymnasium.
In the first half, despite playing without leading scorer and rebounder
Yuseff Carr who missed the game with flu-like symptoms, Mansfield used a 17-4 run to take a 27-17 lead on a 3-pointer by
Cory Henneghan 11 minutes into the game.
But West Chester countered with a 16-4 run of its own to take a 33-31 lead on a layup by Thiel Benn five minutes later and extended its lead to 42-38 at halftime.
Mansfield, which shot 52% from the floor in the first half, shot an ice-cold 26% in the second half while West Chester was red-hot from the floor connecting on 17 of 28 shots.
Mansfield trailed 48-43 three minutes into the second half before West Chester went on a 12-2 run to take a 60-45 lead on a layup by Kehinde Roberts with just over 12 minutes to play. Mansfield failed to make a shot from the floor during a six minute stretch over that span.
Tony Fannick led Mansfield with 19 points and also added five rebounds four assists and blocked three shots.
Derrison Anthony scored 18 points with
Cory Henneghan scoring a season-best 14 points.
Chuck Harper added 11 points.
Shannon Givens led five players in double figures for West Chester with 16 points.
Mansfield travels to Millersville this Saturday
