FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Mansfield drops heartbreaker at No. 19 Bowie State 82-81 in overtime

BOWIE,MD – Ali Djim's tip-in on a missed free throw with 10 seconds remaining in overtime lifted No. 19 Bowie State to a 82-81 win over visiting Mansfield Friday evening.
The Mountaineers took a 81-80 lead with just under a minute to play in overtime when Derrison Anthony hit one of two free throws. With 12 second to play, Djim missed a pair of free throw for Bowie State but the Bulldogs Eric Vann got the rebound and was fouled. He missed both of his free throws but Djim tipped in the rebound off the second miss to give Bowie State the lead.
Mansfield had one final chance but Kurtis Levere's driving layup with two seconds left rolled off the rim and Bowe got the ensuing rebound.
Mansfield played the entire overtime without the services of leading scorer Yuseff Carr who fouled out in the final minutes regulation play.
Mansfield jumped out to a 9-0 lead in the first three minutes of the game before Bowie rallied for a 32-27 lead with just over three minutes before halftime.
The Mountaineers retook the lead 36-34 on a tip-in by Anthony as the buzzer sounded for the end of the
first half.
Mansfield came out of the locker room on fire going on a 11-2 run over the first three minutes of the second half, taking a 47-36 lead on a jumper by Anthony. Bowie stormed back tying the game at 55-55 with 12:08 in regulation on a tip-in by David Brockeberry.
Mansfield led 60-56 on a pair of free throws by
Breland Roach five minutes later before Bowie took a 67-65 lead on a jumper by Rasheem King with 2:38 to play. Mansfield went inside to Carr on their next two possessions to retake the lead 69-67 with 90 second remaining.
But Carr picked up his fifth foul 13 seconds later. Mansfield still extended its lead to 71-68 on a pair of Roach free throws before Bowie cut the lead to 71-70 with 38 seconds to go.
Tony Fannick hit one of two free throws to give Mansfield a 72-70 but Bowie's Darren Clark tied the game with 72-72 on a long jumper to send the game into overtime.
Carr and Anthony each recorded double-doubles with Carr scoring 17 points and pulling down 15 rebounds before fouling out with 1:33 remaining in regulation play. Anthony also scored 17 points with 10 rebounds while
Josh DuPuy added 12 points and Charles Harper 11.
Bowie State (5-0) was led by Darren Clark who scored a game-high 21 points with Byron Westmoreland adding 18 points.
Mansfield travels to undefeated Mercyhurst on Monday before returning home to face UDC on Thursday and Le Moyne on Saturday.
