Mansfield men tighten defense in second half to rally for 82-68 win at UDC

WASHINGTON, DC –
Yuseff Carr and
Derrison Anthony each scored 19 points and Mansfield tightened down defensively to rally from a 10-point second half deficit to beat the District of Columbia 82-68 Saturday evening.
“We scored 82 points, but we won with our defense,” said head coach
Rich Miller. “We held them to 26 points in the second half and scored a lot of our points during transition set up by our defense.
Kurtis Levere and
Chuck Harper really gave us a nice lift in the second half off the bench.”
Mansfield held an early 21-12 led but UDC rallied to take a 42-38 lead at halftime.
The Firebirds increased that lead to 10 points early in the second half before Mansfield was able to use its defense to score transition points taking a 57-55 lead on a
Kurtis Levere layup seven minutes into the second half.
Mansfield led 67-57 with just under seven minutes to play and increased that lead to 77-60 with three minutes left.
Josh Dupuy added 17 points with Levere and
Chuck Harper playing key roles in the second half. Harper recorded four second half blocks and Levere was responsive for numerous fast breaks.
Mansfield improves to 3-0 on the season.
