Field Hockey Takes Road Loss at #1 Ranked Shippensburg

SHIPPENSBURG – The visiting Mountaineers couldn't match the No. 1 team in the nation today at Shippensburg University with a final score of 7-1 in favor of the Lady Raiders.
The Mountie field hockey team faced a tough Lady Raider defense which held Mansfield to zero shots in the first half. Shippensburg struck early when Kristina Taylor scored her 14th goal of the season just over 6 minutes into the game. The Lady Raider's Amanda Strous and Sam Lagone each added unassisted goals for Ship to make it a 3-0 game with 5 minutes left in the half.
Shippensburg recorded two more goals before going into halftime when Taylor Jones put one past the Mansfield keeper in the 31st minute and again when Bre White scored on a penalty swipe 2 minutes later.

Brianna Velepec scored her first career goal in the 60th minute of play when she received a
Kristy Tutorow pass and placed it in back of goal. This marks the second game of the season that Mansfield has recorded a goal against a Shippensburg defense that has only allowed 13 total goals on the season.
Ship added 2 more goals in the final 5 minutes of play to make the final score 7-1 in favor of the unbeaten Lady Raiders.

Kristyn Grunza led the Mountie offense with 2 shots on goal.
Shippensburg remains undefeated at 16-0 overall and 7-0 in the PSAC West. Mansfield falls to 5-11 overall and 3-3 in the PSAC West. With their 3 wins in the PSAC West, Mansfield currently sits in second place in the division.
The Mountaineer field hockey team is back in action this Wednesday, November 3rd when they travel to Slippery Rock in a PSAC West match-up. Game time is set for 4:00pm.
