WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – The Mountaineer baseball team (11-16, 2-6 PSAC East) traveled to Historic Bowman Field to compete against Kutztown University (11-11, 3-5 PSAC East) on Sunday (Mar. 29) afternoon, first game goes to the Golden Bears as the Mounties shut them out in game two.
Game One: Kutztown 7, Mansfield 5
Starting pitcher for game one was Quinn Shindler, he threw 2.1 innings, allowing just three hits and three strikeouts.
The Golden Bears opened scoring early in the match up with a run in the first inning.
In the second inning, the Mounties were able to pick up four runs. Cooper Rother had a double which turned into a triple thanks to an error by third base, which brought in two RBI's with Ryan Sekulski and Tanner Hoffman.
In the third, Kutztown was able to add two more runs to cut the lead down to 4-3.
Another two runs in the sixth inning and two more in the seventh inning giving the Golden Bears the lead 7-4.
A Mountaineer run was added in the bottom of the seventh allowing Nick Ledger to score, finalizing the game 7-5.
Game Two: Mansfield 7, Kutztown 0
Starting Pitcher for game two, was Ryan Sink who threw four innings with only one hit and one strikeout.
A historic start to the scoring for Billy Riggs, with his first ever career home run giving Mansfield the lead right away.
In the third, Peter Tadic grounded to second bringing in Kahale Burns to up the score, 2-0.
Four more runs were added in the fifth inning for the Mounties.
Tadic singled down the left line, earning two RBIs with Burns and Evan Laredo coming home.
Riggs had a sacrificial fly ball to left field giving him an RBI, with Slade McTigue returning to the plate, 5-0.
Sekulski had the same fate, but this time Tadic scored.
The final run of the game was scored by Ledger, off of a single to right field from Brinden Floyd.
