Mounties Take One of Two from West Chester

The Mansfield Baseball team competed in first conference action on Friday afternoon.

WEST CHESTER, Pa. – The Mountaineer baseball team (10-11) traveled to compete against West Chester University (14-8) on Friday (Mar. 20) afternoon, with the Mounties taking the game one and falling behind in game two.

Game One: Mansfield 4, West Chester 1

Starting pitcher for the game was junior, Garrett Emerick, he threw 5.2 innings, allowing just four hits and two strikeouts.

Scoring started quick for the Mounties in the second inning when Cooper Rother placed a sacrificial bunt to advance his teammates on the bases.

However, the Cacher overthrew down to first which gave Nick Ledger and Billy Riggs the chance to score.

Tanner Hoffman followed up with a single to right field bringing in Rother for an RBI.

Ryan Sekulski opened the fifth inning with a single to right field bringing in Peter Tadic to boost the scoreboard 4-0.

In the sixth, the Golden Rams were finally able to time the pitch just right to land themselves a home run and finally on the board.

However, the Mounties proved to be too much for West Chester pulling away with a game one win 4-1.

Game Two: West Chester 12, Mansfield 7

The scoring started in the first inning with a ground ball to third base Riggs gave Sekulski enough time to make it to home plate.

But the Golden Rams were able to pull a fast start on the Mountaineers with 12 runs following in the first three innings.

Mansfield held off the rams in the fourth finally able to pick up some momentum in the fifth.

Riggs had a double down the left line allowing Slade McTigue and Sekulski to score.

Right after Peter Tadic had a fly out to left field, which gave Riggs time to head home, 12-4.

Rother was able to reach base by another field error, which gave Ledger the pass at home.

The Mounties were able to keep West Chester scoreless in the final three innings adding two more runs of their own.

Another double down the left line, this time from McTigue, gave Kahale Burns the chance to add one.

The final run of the game was a far out of the park, left field homer courtesy of Tadic.
