KUTZTOWN, Pa. – The Mansfield University men's basketball team competed on January 29, in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference action against Kutztown. The Mounties collected the win, with a final score 66-60.
Darrien Berrios Rivera finished with a team-high 15 points on five made three-pointers.
Sterling Scott finished with 12 points and a team-best eight rebounds.
The Mountaineers (2-17, 1-12 PSAC) quickly started things off, where they jumped out early behind efficient shooting and active defense.Â
Mansfield connected on over 60 percent of its shots in the opening half and knocked down seven three-pointers, steadily building separation as the game wore on.Â
By halftime, the Mounties had turned that strong start into a 42–26 advantage.
Berrios Rivera fueled the early surge, catching fire from beyond the arc.Â
Scott controlled the paint and the glass, while JuJu Pagan added 11 points and seven boards to give Mansfield three players in double figures.
Kutztown (5-13, 2-11 PSAC) pushed back in the second half, but Mansfield answered each run with timely stops and key baskets.Â
Julian Wilson provided steady production with nine points and six rebounds, while the Mounties continued to generate offense by forcing turnovers and turning defense into transition opportunities.
Despite a tighter finish, Mansfield remained composed down the stretch.Â
The Mounties closed the game at the free-throw line in the final seconds, securing a six-point victory and earning their first PSAC win of the season.
