MANSFIELD, Pa. - The Mansfield University women's basketball team competed in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference action Saturday afternoon, falling to Shippensburg University, 83–73.
Katie Sheeler led the Mountaineers with 28 points, knocking down 5 of 8 shots from beyond the arc.
Jenna Kasmierski added 11 points, going 2 for 3 from the free-throw line.
Shippensburg (2-16, 1-11 PSAC) opened the game on a 9–5 run before Mansfield (2-17, 0-12 PSAC) responded with three consecutive 3-pointers out of a timeout.
Baskets from KJ Gordon, Sheeler and Jenna Burkett gave the Mounties a 14–9 lead with 2:44 remaining in the first quarter.
The Raiders answered back as the teams traded baskets for the remainder of the quarter, which ended tied at 17.
Shippensburg began the second quarter with a 9–5 run, but Mansfield rallied late in the half behind key buckets from Sheeler and Kasmierski to cut the deficit to 36–33 at halftime.
The Mountaineers stayed within striking distance throughout the second half but were unable to find a late push as the Raiders secured the 83–73 victory.
