Mounties Compete in Back-and-Forth Affair

The Mansfield men’s basketball team competed in conference action on Saturday afternoon.

MANSFIELD, Pa. — The Mansfield men's basketball team fell to Shippensburg University, 97–77, in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) action on Saturday afternoon at Decker Gymnasium.

Sterling Scott led with a double-double recording 25 points and 11 rebounds, as well as four assists.

Darrien Berrios Rivera followed up with 15 points and three rebounds.

Mansfield opened the game strong and stayed within striking distance throughout the first half.

Shippensburg (9–9, 4–7 PSAC) started the exchange as they traded baskets and momentum tight opening 20 minutes.

Scott set the tone early for Mansfield, scoring efficiently in the paint and on the perimeter as the Mounties remained locked in during a back-and-forth first half.

Berrios Rivera provided an offensive boost off the bench, knocking down timely shots to help Mansfield maintain pace, while Jackson Henry added scoring support as the Mounties continued to respond to runs.

Mansfield (1–17, 0–12 PSAC) entered the locker room trailing just 39–35 at halftime after several lead changes and a competitive finish to the opening half.

In the second half, Scott continued to lead the Mounties offensively, finishing the game with a game-high 25 points on 8-of-11 shooting while also pulling down 11 rebounds to secure a double-double.

Berrios Rivera finished with 15 points off the bench, Henry reached double figures with 10 points, Julian Wilson and JuJu Pagan tied with six, Nasir Brown and Karson Dominick collected five each, Mani Healey picked up three and Josh Franklin with two.

Despite the Mounties' continued effort, Mansfield was unable to close the gap in the final minutes and fell after being outscored in the second half.
