MANSFIELD, Pa. – Scott Woodring had a career night, but Bloomsburg (5-17, 4-11 PSAC East) squeaked out a last-minute thriller over the Mansfield Mountaineer men's basketball team (7-14, 4-11 PSAC East) in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division clash with the Huskies in a 76-72 shootout on Wednesday (Feb. 5) night.Â
Woodring sank five three pointers and earned his fifth double-double of the season in his 30-point, 15-rebound night, with both serving as his new career highs. Â
Owen Chambers finished with 13 points and three rebounds and
Sterling Scott reached 12 points and four rebounds.Â
The two tangoed into a 9-9 score through the opening minutes of the contest before Woodring found the early groove, sinking seven of the first 14 Mountie points to reach the 14-12 lead.Â
With two three pointers in support from Chambers, Woodring added five more in quick fashion, posting 12 of the first 22 for the red and black, as Mansfield held the 22-18 edge midway through the first half.Â
Bloomsburg retook the lead, holding a 27-24 advantage after knocking down three straight baskets.Â
Woodring finished off his 18-point start with back-to-back three pointers to connect for the 30-29 lead.
Three lead changes ensued before the Huskies remained in control for the remainder of the half with a hold of 43-39.Â
Woodring opened up the half with the same fire in his shot, knocking down eight in the first three minutes of the half and already reaching his career high of 26 with 17 minutes to play, but Bloom still controlled the scoreboard at 52-46.Â
Apart of an 11-3 run for the Mounties brought back the score to a tie at 52 a piece.Â
Bloomsburg responded with their own run, posting four buckets in the next two and a half minutes to block a Mansfield lead in the half at 60-54.Â
Lleyton Fried contributed six points to slim the Huskie lead to 63-60 with eight minutes remaining.Â
After four Mountie free throws and Woodring reaching his first 30 burger, Bloomsburg fought back with six of their own to hold the 71-64 edge heading into the final five.Â
A three-pointer from Chambers and a jumper from Scott brough the team to within two with under four minutes remaining.Â
With another Bloom bucket,
Ty Crespo sank a crucial three to limit the score to 73-72 at the 2:26 mark.Â
At 36 seconds remaining, the Huskies found an open door under the basket to bring it to a three-point game at 75-72.Â
Bloomsburg defended the final seconds and prevented enough of the Mountaineer offense to squeak out the 76-72 victory.Â

Due to pending inclement weather, the Mountaineers will now face #25 West Chester on Saturday (Feb. 8) with an earlier time for the PSAC Eastern Division battle. Tip-off is now scheduled for 1 p.m.
