Women's Basketball Hosts Senior Day

MANSFIELD, Pa. – The Mansfield Mountaineers women's basketball team (9-17, 5-15 PSAC East) had their final regular season home contest on Saturday after as they faced East Stroudsburg (12-13, 9-10 PSAC East) for senior day.

Before tipoff, the Mounties celebrated three seniors who have contributed so much to the women's basketball program. Kenedy Stroup, Kristen Fulford, and Sarah Hortin, each student-athlete have dedicated themselves in the basketball program and have represented the qualities of being a Mansfield Mountaineer.

Danae Ellzy led the way for Mansfield with 15 points, seven rebounds, and two steals
 

Sarah Hortin accounted for 15 points, six rebounds, and two blocks with Kristen Fulford following with seven points and four rebounds in their senior day performance.


As the Warriors got out to a 5-0 start to the game, Hortin nails an early three pointer to bring the Mounties back into the contest with Sheeler dishing out two assists in the first quarter.

With the Mountaineers trailing in a 12-6 lead from East Stroudsburg later in the first quarter, Sheeler helps Mansfield bounce back with six points in the first quarter that included a three-point basket and a converted and-one play, bringing the Mounties down by three in an 18-15 game.

Early in the second quarter, Mansfield and East Stroudsburg were trading baskets, but with the efforts of Ellzy, Kristen Fulford, and Amiyah Nguyen, the Mountaineers were able to close in on the deficit being down 20-24 with six minutes left. The Warriors ended the second quarter on an 8-0 run, giving them the lead 38-23 going into halftime.

As the Mounties forced turnovers and scored on many transition opportunities, Ellzy provided some scoring with a hot start to the third quarter, pouring nine points in the quarter.

Hortin and Minyhah Easterling brought intensity on the defensive end and in the rebounding category a Easterling tallied one block and combined for four rebounds by the end of the third quarter as the Mounties trailed 60-44.

In the final efforts for the Mountaineers, Hortin added five points in the fourth quarter with the help of Cydney Stanton and Ellzy getting to the free throw line. The Warriors went on a 14-7 run to close out the fourth quarter with a final score, 76-55.
