MANSFIELD, Pa. - The Mansfield University women's basketball team competed in their first game of conference play on Saturday, Dec. 6, against Slippery Rock University, with the Rock taking the win 66-40.
Katie Sheeler led the red and black in scoring with 18 points and two assists.
Delilah Nazih collected nine points and one steal.
The Mounties (2-6, 0-1 PSAC) started slow, with Sheeler breaking the scoring with two free throws.
The Rock (3–4, 1-0 PSAC) responded 10 unanswered points through the first seven minutes, starting them with a 10-2 lead.Â
Mansfield pushed back with six unanswered points at end the quarter, with Amiyah Nguyen getting to the cup for two.
Both teams battled early in the second quarter, with Mansfield able to cut the lead to two points with just three minutes left.Â
The Rock completed a 7-0 run to finish out the half, allowing them a 25-16 lead.Â
Coming out of halftime, both teams pushed back and forth, with the lead staying with the Rock going into the fourth, 44-36.
Slippery Rock pulled away in the final minutes, leaving Decker Gymnasium with the win.
