Mansfield Win in Double Overtime Thriller

The Mansfield women's basketball team competed in non-conference action on Saturday afternoon.

CLARION, Pa. – The Mansfield Mountaineer women's basketball team (1-1) faced off in non-conference action against the Livingstone College Blue Bears (0-2), where the Mountaineers took the win in a final score of 84-79, on Saturday (Nov. 15).

Katie Sheeler led with 28 points, five steals, and two assists.

KJ Gordon collected 19 points and nine rebounds on the night. Both teams started strong trading buckets, ending the first quarter with Livingstone up 19-11.  

The red and black, lowered the deficit to only nine points with five minutes to remain in the second. 

The Mounties finished the half, going on an 8-6 run to cut the lead down to 30-24.

The Blue Bears started the second half strong, until Sheeler adjusted the lead to only four points after a deep three.

Mansfield kept it close until the end the quarter to go into the final ten minutes with a score of 45-42.

Livingstone was able to keep their lead with back to back points to extend the lead to 55-47.

Sheeler once again took control of the final seconds of play with a driving layup, which took the teams into overtime.

The Blue Bears opened overtime with two free throws, but Tyarah Woody responded with a three-pointer to give Mansfield their first lead of the game.

Livingstone was able to push ahead again until, Gordon converted a free throw to tie things up again 67-67.

A missed shot by the Mounties, caused Sheeler to clean it up with only three seconds left to send both teams into double overtime. 

The red and black pulled away with a layup from Sheeler and one by Delilah Nazih to take a three-point lead with one minute left in the second overtime.

Sheeler sealed the deal with a long three and a free throw to finalize the victory for the Mounties, 84-79.

Mountaineers are set to compete next on Wednesday (Nov.19), against Roberts Wesleyan University with tip-off scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
