BLOOMSBURG, Pa.- The Mansfield Mountaineers Men's Basketball team started the calendar year with a PSAC East victory on the road beating Bloomsburg by a score of 68-63.
Sterling Scott led the Mounties (5-8, 2-4 PSAC East) with a career high 23 points shooting 44% from the floor. He added six rebounds and three assists.
Julian Wilson had a career high points with 14, to go with eight rebounds. He was a perfect 4-4 from the free throw line.
Every player that checked in for Mansfield had over four rebounds as they out rebounded the Huskies (2-11, 1-5 PSAC East) 50-33.
Mansfield struck early on an 8-3 run, with six of those points coming from Scott. Wilson had five rebounds in the first five minutes.
Mansfield led 17-11 halfway through the first half
Scott Woodring and Scott had a combined 16 points to that point with Scott shooting 57%.
Nasir Brown took a coast-to-coast three to go up 22-11 with 9:16 remaining and force a Husky timeout. He would finish with 11 points in the game.
Both teams would trade free throw opportunities before Scott and Wilson had back to back layups giving the Mounties the 29-18 avantage with 3:01 remaining in the first half.
The Mounties finished the half on a 7-4 run that included an ally-oop layup, by Woodring, to break the Husky press. Mansfield Led 36-23 at the half.
Bloomsburg got off to a quick start with a 10-4 run through the first six minutes of the half. Mansfield had three turnovers during that stretch.
The Huskies continued to pull towards the lead out pacing the Mountaineers, and tying the game on a Louie Wild layup before a Tony Henderson free throw gave Bloomsburg a 47-46 lead with 8:06 remaining.
Scott would answer on a layup to put the Mounties back on top 48-47 with 7:50 remaining in the game. He would go on a 9-4 run by himself putting Mansfield ahead 55-51 with 5:22 remaining.
Mansfield held that lead throughout the rest of the contest with an
Owen Chambers three point contest as well as going 9-15 from the free throw line. The Mounties would take the contest 68-63.
Wild led the Huskies with 20 points. Matt Bengel had 18 points and nine rebounds.
