Mansfield Setback by Marauders in PSAC East Contest

MANSFIELD, Pa. – The Mansfield Mountaineers Women's basketball team (7-9, 3-7 PSAC East) were setback by Millersville University (11-5, 6-3 PSAC East) on Wednesday (Jan. 15) evening by a final score of 68-56.

Cydney Stanton led the team with a double-double having 14 points and ten rebounds. 

Sarah Hortin also had a double-double, accumulating 12 points and 11 rebounds. 

Stanton opened the game for the Mounties with a layup, taking the early lead in the game.

At five minutes to go in the first quarter, the score was nose to nose, with Mansfield in control at 9-8. Kristen Fulford led the team with all seven points during the last five minutes in the quarter gaining the lead for the Mounties 16-13.

Millersville started the second ten minutes with a layup, followed by a three at the top of the key from Stanton.

At the five-minute mark in the second half, the Marauders went on a 10-2 run, taking the Mounties into half time with a score of 35-25.

Millersville continued to keep that lead into the third quarter, where Mansfield was only able to obtain four points in the first five. 

The Mountaineers ended that quarter with four back-to-back baskets gaining nine points, holding the 48-38 advantage. 

Hortin kicked off the final quarter with two layups followed by a three from teammate Paris Anthony

The Mounties knocked down the lead to only five points at 57-52, with four minutes left in the game.

Millersville saw the opportunity and built back up their lead, sinking much needed foul shots to close out the game, 68-56.

UP NEXT:
The Mounties are set to face Lock Haven on Saturday (Jan. 18).  Tip-off from Decker Gymnasium is scheduled for 1 p.m.
