MANSFIELD, Pa. – In a Saturday (Jan. 18) afternoon Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division contest between the Mansfield Mountaineer women's basketball team (7-10, 3-8 PSAC East) and Lock Haven (11-5, 6-4 PSAC East), the Bald Eagles came out on top, defeating the Mounties with a 65-43 victory.
Katie Sheeler led the way for the Mountaineers scoring 16 points and added four rebounds.
Cydney Stanton followed with 11 points and six rebounds and
Paris Anthony added six points and three rebounds.
Lock Haven got off to a hot start, taking an early 7-0 lead. Sheeler also had an efficient start to the contest, scoring seven points in the first quarter. The Mounties were able to cut the lead, but the team still trailed 19-11 at the end of the first quarter.
The Mountaineers were able to cut the lead down to five as they forced eight turnovers on the Bald Eagles, and Sheeler continued to lead the way with 11 points. Lock Haven continued to lock down the lead, which was 30-18 at the end of the first half.
The Mounties had a strong start in the third quarter getting to the free throw line and converted 8-8 in the quarter. As Mansfield continued to struggle with rebounds and converting points in the paint, Lock Haven had a commanding lead heading into the fourth quarter at 46-31.
As the final quarter began, Anthony and Stanton were major factors for Mansfield as Anthony ended with six points and three rebounds and Stanton had 11 points with four rebounds. The Bald Eagles continued to hold their ground as the final score was 65-43.
