Mansfield Hosts 2024 Senior Day

MANSFIELD, Pa - The Mansfield Mountaineers baseball team (14-28, 7-21 PSAC East) hosted their 2024 Senior Day to close out their weekend series with the Lock Haven Bald Eagles (10-31, 7-21 PSAC East) on Sunday, April 28. 

GAME 1

Lock Haven scored two runs in the top of the first to jump out to a 2-0 lead. 

Mansfield tied the game at two thanks to a two-run throwing error by the Bald Eagle catcher. 

LHU's four-run third inning gave the Bald Eagles a 6-2 advantage on just three hits.

Ryan Sekulski's two-RBI single in the bottom of the third cut the Mountie deficit in half.

Mansfield starter Ryan King threw 3.0 innings, allowing just three hits but was tagged for six runs. Brad Hood took over out of the bullpen in the fourth. 

More defensive struggles for Lock Haven led to a six-run fifth inning for the Mountaineers.

The inning was highlighted by back-to-back-to-back home runs off the bats of Ryan Scott, Cole Serfass, and Jacob Houtz.

The inning came to a close with the Mountaineers up 10-6.

Lock Haven belted a three-run home run in the top of the seventh to chase Hood after a brilliant three-plus innings of work. 

The Bald Eagles tied and took the lead with a pair of RBI singles to cap off a five-run seventh and claim an 11-10 lead.

Mansfield tied the game with an RBI single from Serfass to send the game into extras. 

LHU took the lead in the top of the ninth with an RBI walk and closed out game one in the bottom to secure a 12-11 victory. 

GAME 2

Lock Haven opened the scoring in the second game with two RBI singles in the third inning.

The Bald Eagles extended their lead to 3-0 in the fourth on an RBI fielder's choice. 

Mansfield got on the board in the bottom of the fourth thanks to an RBI fielder's choice by Jeffrey Coakley

The Haven added another insurance run in the top of the seventh to reclaim their three-run lead.

Trailing 4-1 entering the bottom of the seventh, the Mountaineers went down 1,2,3 and dropped game two 4-1. 

Senior Eric Gustofson had another stellar outing, throwing 6.2 innings, and allowing four runs on six hits while striking out 11. 

UP NEXT:

Mansfield hosts their final home game of the 2024 season on Friday, May 3 against the Bloomsburg Huskies. The doubleheader is set to start at 1:00 p.m.
