Mounties Fall at Bloomsburg

BLOOMSBURG, Pa. - The Mansfield Mountaineers women's basketball team (9-12, 6-10 PSAC East) was defeated by the Bloomsburg Huskies (6-16, 4-12 PSAC East) on Wednesday night in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division play.

Cydney Stanton led the way for the Mountaineers scoring a team-high 15 points and tied for the team-high with eight rebounds.

Jasmine Hilton scored 14 points on the night, grabbed eight rebounds, recorded four steals, and one block.

Kristen Fulford finished third on the team with 10 points.

Senior Emilie Leidig recorded the first Mountaineer field goal with a left-wing three-pointer to tie the game at 6.

The Huskies controlled much of the first quarter taking a seven-point lead into the second quarter.

Mansfield erased the Bloomsburg lead in the second quarter, outscoring the Huskies by eight to take a 32-31 lead into halftime.

Hilton led the Mountaineers with eight points and five rebounds, while Fulford added six in the half on 3-7 shooting.

A tightly contested start to the third quarter sent this game into the media timeout tied at 43. Coming out of the timeout Hilton converted a right-handed driving layup to give the Mounties a two-point advantage.

The back-and-forth quarter ended with Bloomsburg grabbing a one-point lead going into the fourth quarter of play.

Bloomsburg extended their lead to 10 early in the fourth. However, Mansfield was able to chip away and get it down to as little as three in the quarter.

Unfortunately, the Mountaineers never found the run they needed to close the gap as they fell to the Huskies by a final score of 69-62.
