MANSFIELD, Pa. – The Mansfield Mountaineers women's basketball team (11-14, 8-12 PSAC East) entered as the fifth seed in the conference for their contest with No. 18 Lock Haven (23-2, 18-1 PSAC East) looking to clinch a playoff spot in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) postseason, but the Bald Eagles continued to show why they are the top seed, defeating the Mounties, 85-54.
Jasmine Hilton led the Mounties with 20 points and grabbed seven boards on the night.
Katie Sheeler followed up with seven points and three rebounds during the game.
Mansfield jumped out to an early 8-4 run, behind Alivia Paeglow dropping three points. The Bald Eagles followed closely behind tying the score, keeping it neck to neck. Hilton ended the quarter with a three-point basket, allowing the Mountaineers to take a one-point lead, holding the 15-14 lead.
Lock Haven rushed to get the lead back at the start of the second quarter, clinching seven points in the first four minutes of play making the score 21-15.
Kristen Fulford came back at them with four points adding to the Mounties score.
The Bald Eagles struck back scoring a total of 12 unanswered points within two minutes and thirty seconds, holding a strong 37-21 lead.
Hilton responded with the last four Mansfield points of the second quarter, but The Haven scored five points in the last minute of play, which took the teams into halftime with the opponent leading 42-26.
Lock Haven had a strong start, scoring the first seven of the quarter and held down their strong lead throughout the rest of the game.
Hilton was the top scorer for the Mountaineers during the third quarter, gaining six points towards the Mansfield score, but the Bald Eagles closed out the third quarter with a score of 75-37 and finished off the Mounties by a score of 85-54.
