Mountaineers Defeat Raiders, Continue Playoff Push

MANSFIELD, Pa - The Mansfield Mountaineers women's basketball team (11-12, 8-10 PSAC East) welcomed the Shippensburg University Raiders (4-20, 3-15 PSAC East) on Valentine's Day for a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division rematch.

In their previous matchup, the Raiders defeated the Mountaineers by a final score of 75-70. Shippensburg erased a seven-point fourth-quarter deficit and outscored Mansfield by 12 in the quarter to earn their second conference win. The Mounties looked to defend their home court as the battle for a PSAC playoff berth.

Katie Sheeler finished with a team-high 21 points while shooting 6-11 from the field.

Jasmine Hilton moved into fifth all-time for rebounds as she grabbed 13 of the team's 37 rebounds. She also added 16 points to secure her ninth double-double of the year.

Alivia Paeglow scored 13 points going 6-11 from the field and grabbed three rebounds.

Paeglow got the scoring started with a layup to give the Mountaineers an early lead. Mansfield would never trail in the first half and held the lead for 17 minutes and 57 seconds of the first 20.

Mansfield controlled the first half, carrying a 14-point lead into the half. Sheeler led the way with 11 points, going 2-2 from three and Hilton added nine points and six rebounds putting her one away from entering the top five all-time in Mansfield history.

Shippensburg opened the second half on a 12-5 run to cut the Mansfield lead to seven in the middle of the third quarter.

Minyhah Easterling completed an and-one opportunity after the media timeout to push the Mountaineer lead back to 10.

Cydney Stanton drilled a half-court shot to end the third quarter to maintain Mansfield's 10-point advantage.

The Mounties took their largest lead of the game (72-50) at the 3:23 mark of the fourth quarter and never looked back, defeating Shippensburg 78-61.
