MANSFIELD, Pa. - The Mansfield Men's Basketball team (3-6, 1-3) escaped with a win against the Edinboro Fighting Scots (4-5, 1-2) at Marion Decker gymnasium with a score of 73-72.
Owen Chambers produced for the Mounties with a double double scoring 15 points and 10 rebounds.
Sterling Scott led the Mounties in scoring with 16 points on the night.
Lleyton Fried came off the bench to score 12 points and a new career high.
Mansfield started the game with a Julian Wilson lay-in and a Chambers three to take a five point lead.
At the first media timeout the Mounties came out of the huddle where Chambers came off the screen to sink his second three of the first half giving the Mounties a 10-3 lead.
The fighting Scots would then start to catch fire and climb back to within one point at the under twelve media timeout with the score at 14-13.
It was a back and forth battle until the Mounties sank two free throws by Scott Woodring and went into the half with a 36-31 lead.
Mansfield came out of the locker room with the hot hand drilling back to back threes from Chambers and Jayden Montgomery to extend the lead to ten.
The Fighting Scots responded, coming back and made the Mountie lead only 46-42 at the under sixteen media timeout.
The Mounties held the lead all the way until the final five minutes of the game. Edinboro cut the Mansfield advantage to one with a 6-0 run.
Sterling Scott took the final minutes into his hands with a driving layup and a clutch jumper to give the Mounties a 73-70 lead.
In the final five seconds the Scots found an open corner three to try and win the game but missed long and the Mounties escaped Decker Gym with a 73-72 win.
