MANSFIELD, Pa.  – The Mansfield Mountaineers men's basketball team (2-5) prevailed over Roberts Wesleyan University (3-4) on Tuesday (Dec. 3) night by a final score of 73-70.

Sterling Scott cleared the way for the Mounties with 18 points on 7-12 shooting.

Jaydan Montgomery set a new career high with 16 points.

Scott Woodring recorded a double-double with 12 points and 13 rebounds.

The battle started strong in the first minutes of play with a quick two-pointer from the Redhawks, countered by a long three from
Sterling Scott.
Â
The Mounties tied the score at 10 a piece after a three-pointer from the top of the key by
LJ Stansbury.
Â
The RedHawks offense applied pressure accumulating 31 points in the remainder of the first 20 minutes while the Mounties collected 23 points.

Roberts Wesleyan snuck away with an eight-point lead going into the second half.

Stansbury helped cut the lead down to only three points at the under 12 media time out.

Mansfield picked up the lead for the first time in the game with a layup from
Diarmid Stewart.

The RedHawks retaliated with deep three from the right side bringing them ahead.

Both teams kept a close game in the final ten minutes scoring right after another.Â

The Mountaineers picked up the lead by two layups in the last five minutes.Â

Jayden Montgomery and Stewart brought home the last three points for the Mounties to take the win.
