Mounties Fall at Slippery Rock

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa.- The Mansfield Mountaineer women's basketball team (5-5, 1-4 PSAC) dropped their final Pennslyvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) crossover game at Slippery Rock (5-5, 3-2 PSAC), on Tues. (Dec. 17), by a score of 70-51.
 
Danae Ellzy lead the way for the Mounties scoring a team high 17 points and adding five rebounds. Amiyah Nguyen led Mansfield in rebounds with six. Sarah Hortin amassed four steals and four rebounds.
 
The Rock got off to a quick start taking a 15-2 advantage. Ellzy took over the Mountie offense netting seven points to close the quarter. Mansfield finished the first quarter on a 7-3 run, but still trailed 18-9.
 
The Mountaineers took the momentum and started to claw back in the second quarter. Cydney Stanton, and Hortin leading the way for the Mounties with five and six points in the quarter respectively. An Ellzy trifecta cut the score to withing four points in the final minute of the half, but the Rock lead 30-26.
 
Slippery Rock jumped out of the half on a 10-0 run. Katie Sheeler broke the streak with a long range three, for her first points of the game.  That sparked a 11-6 run to close out the quarter, highlighted by a big three point shot from Paris Anthony. Mansfield trailed 55-40.
 
The Rock held strong to keep the lead in the fourth quarter. Mansfield could never set up a run, and were outscored 15-11 through the final quarter.
 
Regan Atkins was the leading scorer for The Rock with 18 points.

The Mountaineers return to action for a non-conference bout with Dominican University, on Saturday, Dec. 21, inside Decker Gymnasium. Tip off will be at 1 p.m.
