WEST CHESTER, Pa. - The Mansfield Mountaineers women's basketball team (8-10, 5-8 PSAC East) traveled to West Chester University to take on the Golden Rams (13-5, 8-4 PSAC East) in the second game of their two-game road trip.
Jasmine Hilton recorded a team-high 17 points and eight rebounds.
Cydney Stanton added 13 points, grabbed six rebounds, and led the team with three assists.Â
Danae Ellzy was Mansfield's second-leading scorer with 16 points.Â
A slow start for the Mountaineers allowed the Golden Rams to jump out to an early 5-0 lead. However, freshman Katie Sheeler got the opening basket for the Mounties with a driving layup at the 7:42 mark of the first quarter.Â
The Mansfield offense responded after starting the game 1-4 from the field in the opening minutes as they finished the quarter going 4-8 and shooting a total of 41.7% in the first quarter. Hilton scored eight of the Mountaineers' 12 points in the quarter as Sheeler and Stanton combined for the other four.
Mansfield's offense went cold in the second as the Mountaineers shot 2-14 from the floor and scored eight points in the quarter.
After a first half that saw the Mounties turn it over 11 times and shoot just 26.9% from the field, they trailed 39-20 at the break. Hilton (10) and Stanton (5) combined for 15 of the team's 20 points in the first half. Hilton also grabbed a team-high seven rebounds in the first two quarters.
West Chester came out of the break on fire shooting 73.3% in the third quarter as they stretched their lead to 26 points.Â
The Mountaineers fought until the final whistle but it wasn't enough to take down West Chester as they fell 87-57.
