MANSFIELD, Pa. - The Mansfield University women's basketball team (9-10, 6-8 PSAC East) welcomed the East Stroudsburg Warriors (7-12, 5-9 PSAC East) on Wednesday night for a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division match-up.
Kristen Fulford had a team-high 19 points on 7-12 shooting.
Katie Sheeler added 11 points and knocked down two threes.
Jasmine Hilton scored 10 points and recorded a team-high five rebounds.
A slow start offensively had the Mountaineers go just 3-13 from the field over the first six minutes allowing the Warriors to jump out to an early two-point advantage at the media timeout.
Strong Mansfield defense turned East Stroudsburg over five times and led to the Mounties grabbing a quick lead after the break.
The Mountaineers closed the quarter on a 13-1 run to give themselves a 23-11 lead at the end of the first quarter.
It was more of the same in the 2nd quarter for the Mounties as they stretched their run to 25-5 extending their lead to 20 points at the media timeout.
Heading into halftime Mansfield led by 25 thanks to finishing the first half shooting 14-19 after the difficult start. Sheeler led the Mountaineers with eight points and Fulford was second in scoring for the half with seven points. Hilton, Alivia Paeglow, and Danae Ellzy all added six points as well.
At the end of the third quarter, Mansfield held a commanding 61-34 lead. Fulford led the Mountaineers by scoring nine of the Mountie 17 points in the quarter.
East Stroudsburg won the fourth quarter but Mansfield had plenty of cushion to hold on for a 71-51 victory.
The Mounties dominated from the middle of the first quarter and on, never losing the lead after taking a 13-10 advantage in the first quarter.
