MANSFIELD, Pa. - The Mansfield Mountaineers women's basketball (8-8, 5-6 PSAC) defeated the Millersville Marauders (7-9, 5-5 PSAC) in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference play on Saturday afternoon.
Katie Sheeler scored a career-high 25 points and shot 8-13 from the field while knocking down five threes.
Jasmine Hilton scored a total of 19 points and at the 6:29 mark of the fourth quarter, she moved into the top five in scoring all-time in Mansfield women's basketball history.Â
Cydney Stanton added 12 points and grabbed a team-high nine rebounds.
A back-and-forth first quarter ended with the Mountaineers on top 21-17. The two teams each shot over 50% from the field in the quarter but Mansfield gained the advantage at the free throw line where they made all four of their attempts.Â
The Mountaineers caught fire from three in the second quarter starting 3-3 from behind the arc. Katie Sheeler and Emilie Leidig helped the Mounties increase their lead to 10 in the middle of the second quarter.Â
The good shooting continued as Mansfield finished the quarter going 6-10 from three and shot 45% from the field in the half. At the break, the Mountaineers led 47-35 thanks to 19 points from Sheeler. Hilton added 11 points as the two combined for 30 of the team's 47.Â
Scoring slowed down in the third as the two teams combined for just 31 points and the Mountaineer defense held the Marauders to 12 points. Millersville shot 25% in the quarter and committed eight turnovers.
Mansfield was able to keep their foot on the gas for the entire game winning all four quarters on the way to their 84-60 win.Â
