Men’s Basketball Downed by Millersville

The Mounties returned to Decker Gymnasium to take on the Marauders on Saturday afternoon.

MANSFIELD, Pa. – After winning three of their last four to start Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division action, the Mansfield Mountaineers men's basketball team (6-10, 4-7 PSAC East) were halted by Millersville (13-3, 8-2 PSAC East) as the Marauders had a second half burst to take home the Saturday afternoon victory, 82-64.

Saraj Ali led the Mounties in scoring with 16 points and eight rebounds.

Michael Dickson, Idris Ali, and Scott Woodring each picked up 12 points in the afternoon.

An emphatic dunk by S. Ali saw the Mountie offense start off in the lead early as Mansfield made four of their first five shots.

After being tied at six, the Mountaineers posted an 11-2 run, holding a surprising 17-8 advantage through the first six minutes.

The Marauders responded quickly with a push that saw a Mountie lead slimmed down to 23-20 as Millersville only missed two shots midway through the first half.

The two teams battled it out until halftime came with the opponent grabbing their first lead at eight seconds remaining, to hold the 37-35 score heading into the locker rooms.

Both teams' offenses found their groove in the first half, each shooting at least 50% from the field, 40% from the arc and neither team missed a shot from the charity stripe.

From the whistle, the Marauders got back to business, starting the half with a 49-40 lead.

In a span on two minutes, Mansfield ran the paint, bringing the game to within three, but Millersville did not give up the 53-50 lead.

This would be the closest the Mounties got within as the road team finished out the game on a tear, holding the host to just one three-pointer in the second half and Millersville came out with the 82-64 PSAC Eastern Division victory and remain atop the division leaders.
