Three Mounties Score in Double Figures as Mansfield Defeats Bloomsburg

MANSFIELD, Pa.- The Mansfield Mountaineers women's basketball team (6-7, 3-5 PSAC) defeated the Bloomsburg Huskies (4-10, 2-6 PSAC) in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Eastern division play on Wednesday night.

Jasmine Hilton recorded her fifth double-double of the season scoring 20 points and pulling in 15 rebounds.

Kristen Fulford finished as Mansfield's second-leading scorer, adding 12 points on 4-10 shooting.

Katie Sheeler ended her night with 11 points, shot 1-1 from three, and led the Mounties in assists with three.

It was a slow start for both sides as just four minutes into the game it was knotted at 2 apiece. Mansfield was able to find some momentum, however, going on a 7-0 run to open up an early 7-point lead.

The Huskies ended the run with a three and cut the deficit to four. Both teams went back and forth the remainder of the first quarter as the Mounties held a 13-9 lead at the break.

Fulford and Cydney Stanton did all the scoring for the Mounties in the first as Fulford had nine and Stanton recorded the other four.

The Mountaineers were able to extend their lead in the second quarter as they opened it up to an eight-point advantage before Bloomsburg knocked down two free throws with .3 seconds remaining in the half. Mansfield led 23-17 at halftime.

Fulford led the Mounties with nine points, shooting 3-7 from the floor and 1-3 from three. Hilton led all scorers in the second, recording eight points and pulling in a team-high nine rebounds.

Bloomsburg quickly erased the Mansfield lead to begin the second half as they took a slim 31-30 lead in the middle of the third quarter. Mansfield responded as they went on a 5-0 run to retake the lead.

Headed into the final quarter of play, Mansfield clung to a 42-39 advantage. The Mountaineers led by as many as 11 in the fourth quarter but the Huskies wouldn't go away as they cut the game to three with under a minute to go in the quarter.

Stanton made a layup with 30 seconds to go in the game to secure the victory for Mansfield as they defeated Bloomsburg with a final score of 63-58.
